Labrador Retrievers are a gun dog breed that originated from Canadian fishing dogs found in the Labrador Territory, northwest of Newfoundland, and in Newfoundland itself. The ancestors of today’s Labrador were called St. John’s Water dogs, after the capital of Newfoundland.
